What is an AJAX MotionCam?
AJAX MotionCam is a security motion detector with a built-in camera for alarm photo verification. When the detector identifies motion while armed, it sends the alarm through the Ajax hub and can attach photos so the event can be visually assessed. It is not intended to replace an always-on live-view surveillance camera.
Does AJAX MotionCam connect directly to my home Wi-Fi?
The MotionCam detector communicates with a compatible Ajax hub using the Jeweller protocol for alarms and events and the Wings protocol for photos. The detector itself does not join the home Wi-Fi network like a conventional Wi-Fi camera, although the Ajax hub can use Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular connectivity depending on the hub and configuration.
Why use MotionCam instead of only traditional Wi-Fi cameras?
They solve different problems. A traditional Wi-Fi camera is useful for live viewing and continuous video features. MotionCam is purpose-built for intrusion detection and alarm verification: PIR motion detection triggers the security event, and a photo helps verify what caused it. This reduces reliance on the home Wi-Fi network at the detector and keeps the visual-verification device inside the Ajax alarm architecture.

Customers on the 36-month monitoring term have a $250 hassle-free cancellation fee. Month-to-month customers pay one final month of base monitoring to cover account shutdown and offboarding.
